In order to quickly reference the front end view of your Directory from the Directory record, you will need to add a formula field to your Directory object. By following the steps below, all Directory records will automatically populate a Directory  URL.

  1. Click on the Setup hyperlink in the top right corner of your screen. 

  2. From the Setup page, click the Object Manager. The Object Manager page will open.

  3. Type Directories in the Quick Find search bar. The Directories object will generate in the Object Manager.

  4. Click the Directories object label. The Directories object page will open.

  5. Select the Fields and Relationships section.

  6. Click the New button. 

  7. From the New Custom Field, Step 1, select Formula and click the Next button.


  8. From the New Custom Field, Step 2, type a Field Name and Field Label in the corresponding fields. 

  9. From the New Custom Field, Step 2, select Text and click the Next button. 

  10. From the New Custom Field, Step 3, click the Advanced Formula tab.

  11. In the Advanced Formula text box, paste in the following: '' . should be the URL of the Community you are setting your Directory up for. The single quotations around the URL are required for the syntax to be approved.


  12. From the Advanced Formula tab, click the Insert Operator button, and select Add.

  13. From the Advanced Formula tab, click the Insert Field button, and in the modal select Directories>Record ID (2nd column). Click the Insert button. 

  14. From the Advanced  Formula tab, click the Check Syntax button. If there are no syntax errors, click the Next button. 

  15. From the New Custom Field, Step 4, check the Visible checkbox, to make visible to all Profiles. Click the Next button. 

  16. From the New Custom Field. Step 5, click the Save button. 

You have now created a formula field that will automatically populate a URL to allow you to quickly access the Front End view of your Directory. Now you can focus on designing your Directory. Further information is available below:
